Francis Collins is an American geneticist, physician, and author who served as director of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) from 1993 to 2008. Prior to his appointment at NHGRI, Collins was a professor and director of the Center for Medical Genetics at the University of Michigan Medical School.
