François Arago was a supporter of freemasonry. He believed that it was a force for good in society, promoting enlightenment, tolerance, and brotherhood. Arago was initiated into the Freemasons in 1819 and became a prominent member of the organization. He served as Grand Master of the Grand Orient de France from 1831 to 1833.
