Guizot served as the French Foreign Minister from 1840 to 1847. He was a member of the Orleanist party and supported the July Monarchy. Guizot was a strong supporter of the principle of national sovereignty and opposed any interference by foreign powers in the internal affairs of other countries. He also supported the expansion of French influence in North Africa and the Middle East.
