French-born Françoise Barré-Sinoussi is a virologist who is one of three recipients of the 2008 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for her work in discovering HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. She is a research director at the Pasteur Institute in Paris and is a member of the French Academy of Sciences.
