The Herzeg-Bosnia alliance, between Croats and Bosniaks, was formed following the breakup of Yugoslavia. It was initially established in 1991 as the Croatian Community of Herzeg-Bosnia and reorganized as the Croatian Republic of Herzeg-Bosnia in 1992, as part of efforts by Croatian and Bosnian Croat leaders to establish an autonomous region within Bosnia and Herzegovina.
