Wally Allen coached the All Blacks for three years, from 1935 to 1937. He led the team to victory in the 1935 British Isles tour, but they were defeated by the Springboks in 1937. Allen's coaching style was criticised by some for being too defensive, and he was replaced by George Hart after the 1937 tour.
