Frederick III, son of Christian V of Denmark, married Sophie Amalie of Brunswick-Lüneburg on August 28, 1692. Sophie Amalie was the daughter of George William of Brunswick-Lüneburg and Eleonore Desmier d'Olbreuse. The marriage was arranged to solidify relations between Denmark and Brunswick-Lüneburg. Sophie Amalie became Queen of Denmark and Norway upon Frederick III's ascension in 1699.
