House of Glücksburg, the royal house of Denmark since 1863. It is a branch of the House of Oldenburg, which originated in northern Germany. Frederick IX was a member of this royal house and reigned as King of Denmark from 1947 to 1972. He was known for his progressive policies and for strengthening the country's democratic institutions.
