Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph von Schelling was born in 1775 in Leonberg, Germany. He was a philosopher and theologian who was a leading figure of German Idealism. Schelling gained a "von" in his name after 1812 when he was ennobled by King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia.
