Answer
Fulbert Youlou was popular in the beginning of his term because he promised to bring economic prosperity and political stability to the Republic of the Congo. However, he became increasingly authoritarian and corrupt, and his government became increasingly unpopular. By the end of his term, he had lost the support of most of the Congolese people, and he was eventually overthrown in a coup d'etat.
