G. E. M. Anscombe was a professor of philosophy at the University of Cambridge in England. She was a prominent figure in the analytic tradition of philosophy and is best known for her contributions to the philosophy of language, ethics, and metaphysics. Anscombe was also a devout Catholic and her religious beliefs influenced her philosophical work. She retired from Cambridge in 1970 and died in 2001.
