Gary Kildall founded Digital Research, in 1970. The company developed a variety of software, including the CP/M operating system, which was the first widely used operating system for personal computers. Digital Research also developed the DR DOS operating system, which was a popular alternative to Microsoft's MS-DOS operating system.
