Genghis Khan was born with the name Temüjin. He was the oldest child of Yesugei, a Mongol chieftain of the Borjigin clan, and his wife Hoelun of the Olkhonuds. Genghis Khan later adopted his title when he united the Mongol tribes and became their leader.
