Geoffrey Howe was born in 1926. He was a British politician who served as Foreign Secretary from 1983 to 1989 and Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1979 to 1983. He was a member of the Conservative Party and was considered a close ally of Margaret Thatcher. He resigned from the government in 1990 after disagreeing with Thatcher's policies on Europe.
