English astronomer Sir George Biddell Airy (1801–1892) was the seventh Astronomer Royal. He was born in Alnwick, Northumberland, England, and educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. He made significant contributions to astronomy, including the development of the Airy disk theory and the invention of the zenith sector. Airy also served as President of the Royal Astronomical Society and was a member of the Royal Society.
