Bernard was the middle name of George Blake, a British double agent who spied for the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Blake's full name was George Bernard Blake, and he was born in the Netherlands in 1922. He was recruited by the Soviet intelligence agency, the KGB, in 1944 and worked for them until his arrest in 1961.
