George B. McClellan was born on December 3, 1826. He was an American military officer and politician who served as the general-in-chief of the Union Army during the American Civil War. McClellan was a skilled organizer and administrator, but he was also cautious and hesitant in battle. He was eventually replaced by Ulysses S. Grant in 1864.
