Labor. Georges' political career began as a member of the Labor Party. He was elected to the Senate in 1987, representing the state of Queensland. He served in the Senate for 24 years, during which time he held several ministerial positions, including Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs and Minister for Defence. He retired from politics in 2011.
