George Monck fought on the side of the English Parliament in the Anglo-Scottish War. He was a general in the English army and was instrumental in the defeat of the Scottish forces at the Battle of Dunbar in 1650. He later served as Lord Lieutenant of Scotland and was a key figure in the Restoration of the monarchy in 1660.
