George Monck was a commander under Parliamentarian rule in Eastern Ulster. In 1647, he was appointed Lieutenant-General of Ireland and in 1649 he was appointed Governor of Ulster. He was responsible for suppressing rebellions in Ulster and for restoring order to the province.
