George Pickett was promoted to Brigadier General in the Confederate army in January 1862, shortly after his victory at the Battle of Gaines' Mill in the Peninsula Campaign. He was one of the youngest generals in the Confederate army and would go on to lead his division at the Battle of Gettysburg.
