George Reid was born in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, Scotland on February 29, 1845. He was a Scottish-born Australian politician who served as the 14th Premier of New South Wales from 1894 to 1899. He was also the first Labor Party member to hold the office. Reid was born into a working-class family and worked as a carpenter before entering politics.
