What did George Westinghouse create?

  • The cotton gin

  • The light bulb

  • The steam engine

  • The railway air brake

Answer

George Westinghouse is credited with inventing the railway air brake. It was patented in 1872 and made train travel much safer. Before the air brake, trains had to be stopped by hand brakes, which could be difficult and dangerous, especially in emergencies. The air brake worked by using compressed air to apply the brakes on all of the cars in a train simultaneously.
