Housed in the Georgi Dimitrov Mausoleum in the center of Sofia, the embalmed body of Georgi Dimitrov, the former leader of Bulgaria, was preserved and revered as a symbol of socialist ideology. Constructed in 1949, the mausoleum served as a memorial site and a major attraction for both Bulgarian citizens and international visitors until its closure and removal in 1990.
