Georgios Papadopoulos, the leader of the military junta that ruled Greece from 1967 to 1974, remained imprisoned until his death in June 1999. Following the fall of the junta, Papadopoulos was convicted of treason and sentenced to death, later commuted to life in prison. He spent the rest of his life in various prisons around Greece, passing away at the age of 80 while incarcerated at Athens' Korydallos Prison.
