Friedrich Mietzsch and Joseph Klarer were Domagk's main partners in his research on sulphanilamide. They worked together on the development of Prontosil, the first sulphonamide drug, which was used to treat bacterial infections. The drug was a breakthrough in the treatment of infectious diseases and Domagk was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1939.
