Gerolamo Cardano died in 1576, aged 75. He was an Italian polymath, whose interests and expertise ranged across mathematics, astronomy, physics, biology, medicine, cryptography, music, philosophy, literature, and engineering. He is considered to be one of the most brilliant minds of the Renaissance.
