The south of Vietnam saw most of its expansion under Gia Long, who ruled from 1802 to 1820. Gia Long was a Vietnamese military leader who fought against the Chinese Qing dynasty and established the Nguyễn dynasty. During his reign, Gia Long conquered the southern provinces of Vietnam and extended the Vietnamese empire to its current borders.
