Answer
Gilad Shalit was held in isolation for more than 5 years. He was first taken prisoner in June 2006, when Hamas militants crossed the border into Israel and kidnapped him. He was held in a series of secret locations, and was only allowed to see his captors. He was not allowed to have any contact with the outside world, and was not allowed to read or write.
