Children were the primary victims of Gilles de Rais's crimes. Between 1432 and 1440, he is thought to have killed hundreds of children, mostly boys, in the western region of France. His crimes were discovered after his capture by the Duke of Brittany, and he was subsequently tried and executed in 1440.
