Verrazzano was indeed killed during his voyage in 1528. While exploring North America, he and his crew established contact with local Native American tribes. Unfortunately, during one of these encounters, a conflict arose, resulting in Verrazzano's death. Native Americans from a community of the Iroquois Confederacy killed him and devoured his remains.
