Earl "Curly" Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun founded the Green Bay Packers in 1919. Lambeau, a former Green Bay East High School football star, and Calhoun, a sports editor for the Green Bay Press-Gazette, started the team as a semi-professional outfit before joining the NFL in 1921.
