Peter May succeeded Allen as England cricket captain. An accomplished all-rounder, May played in 66 Test matches for England, captaining the team in 41 of them. He led England to victory in the 1953 Ashes series against Australia, which was their first series win over the Australians in 19 years. He also captained England to victory in the 1956–57 series in South Africa.
