From 2020 to 2021, Guillermo Rigondeaux held the WBA (Regular) bantamweight title. This title was vacated by the previous champion, Emmanuel Rodríguez, who was promoted to the WBA (Super) bantamweight division. Rigondeaux won the title by defeating WBA (Regular) bantamweight interim champion Kiko Martínez by unanimous decision on August 1, 2020. He then defended the title against Liborio Solis by unanimous decision on February 25, 2021.
