Günter Grass was born on 16 October 1927 in Danzig, which is now Gdańsk, Poland. He was a German novelist, poet, playwright, and graphic artist. He is best known for his novels The Tin Drum (1959), Cat and Mouse (1961), Dog Years (1963), and The Flounder (1977). He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1999.
