In battle at sea, Admiral Günther Lütjens, commander of the German battleship Bismarck, met his demise. During the Battle of the Denmark Strait in 1941, the Bismarck engaged in a fierce confrontation with the British Royal Navy. Despite the Bismarck's formidable firepower, it sustained critical damage and was eventually sunk. Lütjens, along with the majority of his crew, perished in the icy waters of the North Atlantic.
