Rall was wounded on three occasions during the Revolutionary War. He was first wounded in the thigh at the Battle of Trenton in December 1776. He was then wounded in the shoulder at the Battle of Princeton in January 1777. Finally, he was wounded in the arm at the Battle of Brandywine in September 1777.
