Coldplay is a British rock band formed in 1996 by lead vocalist Chris Martin and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland at University College London (UCL). Guy Berryman, a friend of Martin's from school, joined the band as bassist. Will Champion, a friend of Buckland's from school, joined the band as drummer after the band's original drummer, Phil Harvey, left.
