Guy Gibson was born on 12 August 1918. He was a British Royal Air Force (RAF) officer who led the famous Dambusters raid during World War II. Gibson was born in Simla, India, to an Irish father and an English mother. He joined the RAF in 1936 and quickly rose through the ranks. By the time of the Dambusters raid in 1943, he was a wing commander.
