Guy Verhofstadt served as Prime Minister of Belgium from 1999 to 2008. He was a member of the Flemish liberal party Open VLD and led a coalition government with the Social Christian Party. During his tenure, he oversaw the adoption of the euro and the introduction of a number of social reforms.
