Answer
Sir Henry Rider Haggard (1856–1925) served as an administrator in the British colony of Natal, in what is now South Africa, from 1875 to 1878. He was appointed magistrate of the district of Eshowe, where he witnessed the Zulu War of 1879. His experiences in Natal inspired some of his most popular novels, including "King Solomon's Mines" (1885) and "She" (1887).
