The last independent Norwegian monarch before Haakon VII was King Magnus VII, also known as Magnus Eriksson. He was the son of King Erik Magnusson and Queen Ingeborg of Sweden, and was crowned King of Norway in 1319. Magnus ruled Norway until his death in 1374. During his reign, Magnus consolidated royal power and introduced several important reforms, such as the establishment of the Norwegian Law Code.
