Tharman Shanmugaratnam succeeded Halimah Yacob as the eighth and current president of Singapore. He was elected on September 14, 2023, following a walkover victory. Shanmugaratnam's nomination received the backing of the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) and was endorsed by the Presidential Elections Committee (PEC). He previously held various ministerial positions in the Singaporean government, including Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies.
