Halldór Laxness was an Icelandic novelist, poet, playwright, and essayist. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest Icelandic writers of the 20th century. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1955 for his novel "Independent People". He wrote under his own name and did not use any pseudonyms.
