Answer
Hans-Adam I, Prince of Liechtenstein, acquired the seigneury of Schellenberg in 1699, a year after acquiring the County of Vaduz. These acquisitions marked the foundation of the modern state of Liechtenstein. With these territories, Hans-Adam I laid the groundwork for the establishment of an independent principality that would later become a member of the Holy Roman Empire and, eventually, the United Nations.
