Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe, was originally known as Salisbury. The city was founded in 1890 and named after the UK Prime Minister Lord Salisbury. It retained this name until 1982 when it was renamed Harare, two years after Zimbabwe's independence from the United Kingdom.
