Hasekura Tsunenaga returned to Japan in 1620 after a 3-year trip around the world. His mission was to establish trade relations between Japan and Europe. He visited Spain, Italy, and the Vatican. He also met with Pope Gregory XV. Hasekura's mission was a failure, but it helped to increase knowledge of Japan in Europe.
