Sergeant Heinrich Harrer, an Austrian mountaineer and explorer, held the rank of SS-Hauptscharführer (Master Sergeant) in the Nazi SS during World War II. He was a member of the SS-Standarte Kurt Eggers, a propaganda unit active between 1940 and 1943, and later of the SS Gebirgsjäger Regiment Nord.
