Helena was a fourth-century Roman empress, who, as the mother of Constantine the Great, had a major influence on the Christianization of the Roman Empire. She was particularly associated with the rediscovery of the True Cross, the cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified. Helena traveled to Jerusalem and, according to tradition, discovered the cross buried beneath the Temple Mount.
