Mankell passed away in 2015. He was a Swedish writer, known for his crime novels featuring the detective Kurt Wallander. His books have been translated into more than 40 languages and have sold more than 40 million copies worldwide. He was also a human rights activist and co-founded the publishing house Leopard Förlag to promote African literature.
